    The Bank of Japan said it would hold policy at 1% today (July 31) and that inflation was likely to exceed its target, shortly after both the Japanese and South Korean authorities were suspected of having intervened to prop up their respective currencies.

    The BoJ’s board decided to hold rates in line with market consensus at its first meeting since June, when it tightened policy to its highest level in 30 years. In an accompanying economic outlook report, the central bank said annual inflation was
