WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The U.S. Federal Communications Fee (FCC) on Wednesday voted to revoke authorization for Chinese language telecom Pacific Networks and its wholly owned subsidiary ComNet to offer U.S. telecommunications providers.
The 4-0 vote to revoke the authorisation first granted in 2001 is the most recent transfer by the American regulator to bar Chinese language telecommunications carriers from the USA citing nationwide safety issues. The FCC mentioned Pacific Networks and ComNet are not directly and in the end owned and managed by the Chinese language authorities.
Jeffrey J. Carlisle, a U.S. lawyer representing Pacific Networks, declined remark. In January, he informed the FCC that Pacific Networks and ComNet are owned by CITIC Telecom Worldwide Holdings.
The FCC says the carriers are in the end managed by CITIC Group Corp, a Chinese language state-owned restricted legal responsibility firm.
Carlise’s letter mentioned the carriers “have interaction in very restricted and small scale facilities-based operations in the USA that don’t pose nationwide safety issues….The first enterprise of the businesses is offering retail calling playing cards.”
The Chinese language commerce ministry criticised the U.S. actions, and mentioned China would undertake measures essential to safeguard the authentic rights of its corporations.
