The Iowa Communications Network has completed a campus-wide infrastructure modernization initiative across the State of Iowa Capitol Complex in Des Moines, enhancing the reliability of essential safety systems in 13 state government buildings. In partnership with Granite Telecommunications, ICN installed 81 EPIK devices connecting elevators, emergency phones and fire panel systems to a new network. The project, launched in March 2025 following service disruptions at the State Historical Building, replaces outdated telephone service lines with a three-layer connection supported by fiber internet and dual cellular backups. Each unit includes a 24-hour battery to maintain service during power outages. The technology integrates with existing equipment, reducing costs while improving dependability and safety for visitors and state employees.
